Maria Celina Gonzales, (Sally) 86 years, was called home on Tuesday September 1, 2020.
Maria was born on September 29, 1933 in Cimarron, New Mexico to Santiago Vigil and Sarah Serna. In 1947, she entered a contest in New Mexico and won the title of "Miss Dawson". She later met and married Fidel Gonzales.
Maria moved to Fort Collins, CO with her family in 1960. She was a strong independent person who worked hard to provide for her family. She worked various jobs and retired from Teledyne Waterpik after 25 years. She enjoyed her time there and shared many memories with her co-workers Virginia Aguirre and Barbara Roediger.
On special occasions, she would make her famous green or red chile with tortillas, beans and fideo for her family. She enjoyed going to Rummage sales on Saturdays, spending time with her children and grandchildren at family gatherings and holidays.
During football season, she enjoyed watching the Denver Broncos with her son and daughters. She especially Loved John Elway! She also enjoyed reading, country drives, and watching her favorite game shows, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.
Maria is survived by her children, Fidel Gonzales Jr, Juanita Flores, Vicky Gonzales, Frances Lujan, Virginia Lujan, Jimmy Gonzales, Joe Gonzales and Yolanda Gonzales Busse, 26 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. Her siblings, Jim Vigil, Sarah Nededog, Dan Vigil, Manuel Vigil, Mary Jo Lucero, Salome Vigil, Juan Vigil, Susan Cruggs and Gloria Turonek. She was preceded in death by Fidel Gonzales, her parents Santiago and Sarah Vigil and a sister Lucy Mondragon.
A private family service will be held at Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
