Margot Livinghouse, 82, of Fort Collins, passed away on October 11, 2012. Margot was born on February 13, 1930 in Berlin, Germany. She spent her youth in Bad Kissingen, Germany with her mother, Gertrud Jaesche. She met, fell in love with, and then married Staff Sgt. Daniel J. Livinghouse on November 27, 1948. Margot and Dan moved to Fort Collins in August 1970 with their five children. Margot gave her heart to the community of Fort Collins for 42 years making friends wherever she went. Margot Livinghouse was a homemaker, a wonderful mother, and grandmother. She lovingly cooked for her family, making holidays very special. She created meals from German culture and Southern recipes. She excelled at making pies. Margot volunteered as room mother for each of her five children as they attended elementary school and for their many clubs, scouts, and sports teams. She was a classroom volunteer at Harris and Laurel Elementary Schools for her two grandsons. All in all, as Mom and Grandma, Margot baked a lot of cookies and cupcakes. Throughout her marriage, she steadfastly supported her husband in his Air Force career. Margot took care of her family while Dan served in two overseas tours and made numerous flights around the world. Together they enjoyed military dances and parties. Margot was a member of the Model T Club, the Model A Club, and the Antique Auto Club of America. She enjoyed attending meetings and going on tours throughout Colorado, Wyoming, and the Dakotas. She participated in several parades over the years with Dan in his antique cars. At the annual Antique Auto Club of America Swap Meet, she volunteered to cook, bake, and serve the attendees. Margot had many friends among the car clubs. Margot worked for Larimer County in voter registration and as an election judge for many years.
In her youth, Margot was an avid swimmer and ice skater. Throughout her life she loved gardening. She had quite a green thumb as she tended her gardens of flowers, fruits, and vegetables. Margot loved being outdoors which included camping, concerts in the park, touring botanical gardens, and taking walks. She enjoyed the sun, beach, and ocean. Margot especially loved feeding and watching birds and squirrels in her yard. She had bird feeders everywhere. When winter came she stood at her picture window watching over the birds at the feeders, not one went hungry. Margot had a place in her heart for dogs and cats. Any stray who made it to her front porch became a family member. Mostly she loved people and conversation. Margot knew no strangers, everyone was a friend. She had a gift for helping people. It was her delight to have a house full of family and friends to feed, to share stories, and to laugh with. She is best remembered as kind, caring, and full of love.
