Listen to Obituary
Margaret Catherine Rowe Wright, 1519 Shadow Mountain Ct, Fort Collins, Co. "A wife and mother of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life... She gets up while it is still dark; she provides food for her family... She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks... She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy... She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her... Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised." These words from Proverbs 31, accurately describe the life of our dear mother, Margaret, aged 101, who passed into eternity on May 31, 2009, to be with her Lord and Savior and loved ones preceding her in death. She died peacefully at home after a short illness. Born August 23, 1907, at Spencer, West Va, Margaret's secret for a long life was "work hard constantly, honor the Lord always, and never take a nap." Growing up on a farm, she lived a life working from sunrise to sunset. Being the oldest of ten children, most of her labor involved farm chores and helping prepare the family meals. She also sewed many of her sibling's clothes, and later her husband's and children's. Cooking and sewing became the things she loved to do...along with reading, all of which became her life long hobbies. Farm chores did not interfere with her education. All through the 8th grade, she walked 2 1/2 miles on unpaved roads to the one room school. High School was a different matter. Since it was 25 miles from the farm, she stayed with her Aunt Jenny, then traveled by horse-back when returning home for special occasions and for the summer. After marriage on September 14, 1929, she and her husband, Franklin Pierce Wright, continued farming. He also taught school until 1936, then they relocated to Boomer, West Va where he became employed by Electro Metallurgical Company until retirement in 1972. Then they traveled throughout the U.S. and British Columbia in their camper until 1980, whereupon they settled in N. Fort Meyers, Fla. Then six years after Frank's death on January 13, 1984, Margaret returned to West Va where she lived until October 2001 when she came to Fort Collins to reside with son Gene and wife Barbara. Margaret was a home-maker, never employed outside the home. She was preceded in death by her parents, R.B. and Eliza Lewis Rowe, her husband Frank, a son Samuel B. of British Columbia, her sister Dorothy Taylor, and a grandson, Wayne Wright. Survivors include sons Gene of Fort Collins, and John Meredith, of Roanoke, VA; two brothers; John Rowe of Newton, WV, and Basil Rowe of Columbus, OH. Six sisters; Wilma Strader of Crossville, TN, Ruth Dodd and Ruby Knight of Springboro, OH, Arneda Combs of Looneyville, WV, Mildred Roberts of Columbus, OH, and Monsa Rowland, of Somerset, KY; and six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and four great- great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on September 5, 2009, at Newton Baptist Church in Newton, West Va. In place of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Mountain Valley Health Care c/o Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St., Fort Collins, 80524.
