Margaret S. Whiteford, 91, died peacefully on Feb. 22, 2007. She was born On Jan. 19, 1916, in Watertown, N.Y.; the daughter of George N. and Martha L. Smith. Margaret attended Smith College in Massachusetts and Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York City. She married George C. Whiteford in 1940. He preceded her in death in 1962. Margaret enjoyed old movies, crossword puzzles, dancing, swimming, and knitting. She was an avid golfer for many years and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She moved to Fort Collins in 1983 and resided at Park Lane Towers, New Mercer Commons and Collinwood Assisted Living. She is survived by daughter, Cathie May and husband, David; and daughter, Mardi Mayfield and husband. Richard of Fort Collins; son, John Whiteford and wife, Barbara, of Rochester, N.Y.; and son, Nat Whiteford of Naperville, Ill.; 11 grandchildren and step-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A private graveside service will be at a later date at Brookside Cemetery in Watertown, N.Y.
