November 28, 1936 — August 5, 2015

Listen to Obituary
Lyle 'Mac' McCormick, a long-time resident of Bellvue and Fort Collins, passed away on August 5, 2015 at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins.

Lyle was born on November 28, 1936 in Holyoke, Colorado to Lloyd and Mildred McCormick. He started a lifelong career as a meat-cutter when he was 13. After graduating Holyoke High School in 1954, he attended Colorado A&M in Fort Collins for a short time before he joined the Marine Corps in 1955 and served until 1958. It was in Holyoke in 1959, he met Connie Schliep and after just four dates they decided to marry.

Raising four kids together while living for a time in San Diego and then settling in Bellvue in 1976, he and Connie made sure the home was always filled with love, laughter, friends and family. While working as a meat-cutter and part-time farmer and rancher, he found time to be a Little League baseball and girls' softball coach, Boy Scout leader, and elder and deacon for several local churches over the years. He supported and cared for Connie as she struggled with MS and rarely missed a day spending time and helping care for her in the 13 years she spent at Lemay Avenue Health and Rehab in Fort Collins. At the time of Connie's death in January 2014, they had been married almost 54 years.

Bonding over the care and loss of each other's long time spouses, Mac and Johonna 'Penny' Noble Lauterbach were married in August 2014. They enjoyed traveling together and spending time with each other's children and grandchildren and were excited about future plans they had made to travel to Hawaii and Alaska.

Mac was a fanatic baseball fan and avid reader, especially western novels. He umpired youth baseball and girls' softball locally for many years and was always involved in the local churches he attended. For 25 plus years he was an active member of the Marine Corps League and Honor Guard and held several positions in its leadership. Many will remember the excellent roasted meats with his own special homemade BBQ sauce he made for numerous friend, family and social gatherings. He loved being Grandpa Mac and cherished deeply his four grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of one year, Johonna 'Penny'; daughter, Daylene Webb (John); sons, Lloyd, John (Stephanie), Rodney (Stephanie); his brother, Eldon McCormick (Bette); granddaughter, Molly McCormick; and grandsons, Andrew Webb (Shea), Tyler Webb, and Dayton McCormick; step-children, Laura Leigh, Tim, Travis (Jamie), Matthew (Rennie); 8 step grandchildren; and 7 step great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church, 531 South College Avenue, starting at 10:00 AM. A reception to follow will be held at American Legion Post #4, 2124 CR 54G (old Hwy 287).

In lieu of flowers the family asks you make donations to the Marine Corps League Detachment #785 or Westminster Presbyterian Church, Fort Collins via Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
