Lydia Ilene Hatfield, 91 of Wellington, CO died November 15, 2013 at Centre Avenue Rehab. Lydia was born February 3, 1922 in Severance, Colorado to Jacob Hettinger and Sophia Kindsfather Hettinger. Lydia grew up with her brothers and sisters on the family farm near Severance. Lydia joined the Women's Army Corps WAC during WWII. She was a truck driver and welded parts for the manufacturing of military airplanes. She married Russell A. Hatfield in Kimball, Nebraska on May 7, 1944. After WWII Lydia and Russ started their lives together in Eaton, Colorado and then moved to Wellington in 1957. Lydia was a homemaker and school bus driver for Poudre R-1 Schools for many years. She was a baker and cook at Glen Echo resort in Poudre Canyon, the Silver Grill in Fort Collins, 3-Forks Restaurant near Red Feather Lakes and T-Bar Inn in Wellington. She enjoyed oil painting and baking for family and friends. When she was younger she loved racing stock cars at the Cheyenne Motor Speedway. She enjoyed being around and taking care of grandchildren. Survivors include her sons, Steven, Randall, and Thomas Hatfield Sally; a sister, Esther Kent; four grandchildren, Michelle Bothwell Darrell, Mike Hatfield, Christy Moore Mitch, and Tara Hatfield; seven great-grandchildren, Mike, Kieyesia, Mariah, and Brittney Bothwell, Cody, Braden, and Brody Moore, and one great-great grandchild, Claira Bothwell.
Preceding Lydia in death are her parents; her husband of 68 years, Russell; a son, Richard; grandson, Brandon Hatfield; four sisters, young Mary and Lydia, Frieda Helzer and Mary Anderson; and five brothers, Jake, Henry, George, Alex, and Herman. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. A graveside service with military honors will follow at Grandview Cemetery.
