Lucy Ann Chiaro McGuire passed away December 27th, 2009 after a long and good life of 92 years! She was born July 14th, 1917 in Coal Creek, Colorado, the oldest daughter of Anna and Louie Chiaro. The family moved to Fort Collins when she was a young child and here she spent the rest of her life. In 1935 she graduated from Fort Collins High School and married Oscar McGuire on November 29, 1935. Together they had two daughters, Diana Koenig and Karen Irey. Oscar passed away in November of 1988. One of Lucy's passions in Life was her beautiful rose garden and vegetable garden. Her tomatoes were the most awesome you had ever seen. Her family will never forget her homemade spaghetti sauce. She belonged to the Merry Niner's Home Extension Club, and was a 4-H leader out of her home. She entered her fabulous Lemon Sponge Cake in the Larimer County Fair, and won 1st place! After raising her children, she took her first job working for Hamilton's Bakery, where she worked as a counter person. Lucy's love of fishing took her away from her job at Hamilton's. She and her husband Oscar had an RV they parked in Poudre Canyon, where they spent the last remaining years that her husband was alive, fishing. Along with fishing, Lucy and Oscar spent many years together Square Dancing. As a couple, their favorite song was "Goodnight Sweetheart". Surviving Lucy are her two sisters, Lena Buttorff and Betty Hotchkiss, both of Fort Collins. Her remaining descendants are her daughters, Diana Koenig of Washington State and Karen Trey of Fort Collins; grandchildren, Scott Jackson, Julie Greenburg, both of Washington State, Lori Martin, Larry Fahrenbruch and Shannon Irey Tucker of Fort Collins. Additionally, she had nine great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren, all of whom will miss her deeply. A Memorial Mass will be held on January 4, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 12:15 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held on January 4th, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery.
