After basic artillery and airborne training, he served in Germany followed by two tours of duty in Vietnam, where he received a number of honors and medals. He was then assigned to Colorado State University to the Department of ROTC and, while serving there, received his master's of science degree in 1973. After a tour with the Artillery and Missile Center from 1973 to 1976, he was transferred to Hawaii for an assignment with CINCPAC. From Hawaii, he returned to Fort Collins with his family, retiring in 1980 as a lieutenant colonel, and began a second career in real estate. Lt. Col. Reid married Glenda Powley Reid on June 28, 1958, and went on to have three children, Dr. Jay Reid Las Vegas, Nev., Leslie Friesen Dallas, Ore., and Janie Marjonen Midlothian, Texas. He was the proud grandfather of Dawson, Desiree, Faith, Jennifer, and Eli, who all loved him very much. He was the ultimate outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing, camping, tying flies and reloading ammo. He spent his last day doing one of the things that he loved most - target shooting with his friends George and Butch. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Glenda; brother, Richard Reid S.D.; three children; and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. at Bohlender Funeral Chapel with full military honors. Lt. Col. Reid was a lifelong animal lover and requests that all memorial contributions be made to your local animal shelter. Loren was also a highly competitive football player and champion wrestler while at Westpoint and was held in extremely high regard by the class of 1958 members.
