Loyd F. Everett, 85, of Fort Collins, died after a six-year battle with cancer on Nov. 7, 2006, at McKee Medical Center, Hospice of Larimer County Unit in Loveland. Mr. Everett was born June 9, 1921, in Big Springs, Neb., to Wilbur F. Everett and Emma Mauser Everett. He moved with his family to Fort Collins when he was 18 years old. He enlisted in the Marine Corps and served his country during World War II in the South Pacific Campaign. He returned to Fort Collins where his family opened the first Drive Inn in town, the Sportsman's Drive Inn. Loyd then married Betty Jean Delehoy on Sept. 14, 1947, in Fort Collins. He was a commercial and residential electrician for 36 years, first, with Chet Thompson Electrical and then with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Loyd was active with the Boy Scouts of America for 50 years. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Award in 1967, the Bronze Big Horn in 1970 and the Silver Beaver in 1979. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars for 50 years, the American Legion for nine years and the Marine Corps League for five years. Loyd was a member of the Good Sam's Summer Bummers. He enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing and the mountains. Mr. Everett is survived by his wife, Betty Everett; four sons, Gary F. Everett, Terry G. Everett, Larry D. Everett and Jerry R. Everett, all of Fort Collins; a brother, Leonard Everett of Loveland; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Loyd was preceded in death by his parents. Those who desire may view Mr. Everett from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. A funeral service with Military Honors by the Marine Corps League will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel, and a graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Grandview Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Longs Peak Council, Boy Scouts of America, in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St., Fort Collins, CO 80524.
