Lorraine N. Larance

Lorraine N. Larance, 92, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2011 at Life Care Center of Littleton, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years – Mayo. Born in Devil's Lake, North Dakota – Lorraine was one of five children born to Lucile and Earl E. Ellis and enjoyed her childhood in the small town of Starkweather, North Dakota. She was a graduate of the University of North Dakota with a degree in Education and received a Master's Degree in Library Science from the University of Minnesota. Lorraine spent 24 years of her life as a dedicated English teacher, in North Dakota, Minnesota, Washington, Michigan, and Missouri. At different times in her life, her sense of adventure led her to work for United Airlines in San Francisco and later served as a Hospital Librarian for the U.S. Army at Fort Carson, Colorado; Camp Lucas, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and Fort Leonard Wood Missouri. It was at Fort Carson, Colorado that she met her future husband, Mayo, a Sargent in the US Army. They were married on May 10, 1951, and lived a wonderful life together for many, many years. For a number of years after retirement, Lorraine served as a volunteer at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Missouri. She was an avid reader and loved doing needlepoint, jigsaw and crossword puzzles to pass the time. Lorraine had a passion for traveling and seeing new places. With her family, and later with just her husband, Mayo, they traveled the highways and byways of the United States and Canada, visiting numerous scenic and interesting places. Lorraine was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. Lorraine is survived by her four children, Beverly Mobley of Parkville, Missouri, Pat Larance -Whicker of Los Alamos, New Mexico, Greg Larance of Apex, North Carolina, and Brad Larance of Littleton, Colorado; five grandchildren, a sister, Bernice Alderson of Grand Forks, North Dakota; and one brother, Dr. Robert Ellis of Fort Collins, Colorado. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 17 at Bohlender Funeral Chapel in Fort Collins, Colorado. Reverend David Dalke will officiate the service. Private Interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations may be made directly to the American Red Cross in support of the victims of the recent national disasters across the United States.
