Lorraine Roseann Hunke (Peatrowsky) passed away quietly on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at the age of 91. Born on October 23, 1934, in West Point, Nebraska, Lorraine was the cherished daughter of Clement and Ida (Ortmeier) Peatrowsky. She attended Guardian Angels School in West Point and graduated in 1952.
She married the love of her life, Alvin L. Hunke, on April 3, 1956. Lorraine and Alvin shared 57 years of marriage until Alvin’s passing on August 9, 2013. She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Early in their marriage, they worked alongside her parents at Clem's Tavern before returning to West Point to work the Hunke family farm, where Lorraine maintained a large vegetable garden, canning and freezing the harvest each year to provide vegetables for her family throughout the year. For many years, she was a devoted wife, dedicated homemaker, and loving mother before the family moved to town. Lorraine began her professional career in 1967 at St. Mary's Hospital in West Point. In 1973, the family relocated to Fort Collins, Colorado, where she continued her career at Poudre Valley Hospital in the nutrition department. She was also a dedicated partner, assisting her husband with Hunke's Janitorial Service until his death.
Lorraine was known as a creative lady, making many beautiful silk floral arrangements for friends and family. She enjoyed playing cards, board games and Scrabble with family and friends. She also loved the Colorado landscape, frequently enjoying trips into the mountains to go wildlife hunting with her camera. Lorraine cherished receiving cards in the mail and derived great comfort from reading her Picture Book of Psalms. In her later years, even while living with late-stage Alzheimer's, she found joy watching Hallmark movies, was fascinated with numbers, and loved watching her favorite Colorado teams—the Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies, and Denver Nuggets—specifically announcing the score.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Hunke, her parents Clement and Ida Peatrowsky, her brother, Larry Peatrowsky, and her sister, Darlene Kiefer.
She is survived by her loving children; Susan (Luis) Cardona of Wellington, Colorado, Gary (Luna) Hunke of Sun City, Arizona, and Diane (Mark) Matthews of Loveland, Colorado.
She is also survived by her brother, Leonard Peatrowsky of Ft Collins, Colorado; her three sisters, Norma Console of Middle Island, New York, Joanie Graham and Elaine Shanahan of Severance, Colorado and sister-in-law, Patty Perry Peatrowsky of Villa Park, California. Lorraine was a beloved grandmother to six grandchildren, Christina Cardona, Orion (Keri) Hunke, Leah Hunke, Jordan (Aly) Hunke, Naomi Gibbens, Joseph (Chandy) Matthews, and a great-grandmother to ten great-grandchildren, Sutter Hunke, Addison Hunke, Ollie Hunke, Madelyn Rice, Lila Hunke, Watson Hunke, Asher Hunke, Jackson Gibbens, Colton Matthews, and Hunter Matthews as well as a cherished aunt to many nephews and nieces and a dear friend to the many people whose lives she touched.
