Lois Virginia Hutchinson Havis was born on August 15, 1922 and went to her Lord Savior on February 16, 2014. Lois was raised on the family dairy farm in Mendon, New York, the second oldest of four girls. She graduated from High School at the age of 15 and left home to attend Secretarial school in Rochester. She worked about eight years in industry and then attended Cornell University where she received a B.A. in Landscape Architecture. Lois met John Havis at Cornell, and they were married in Mendon on June 18, 1949. They lived in Blacksburg Virginia, and then Turrialba Costa Rica for 4 years where John worked at the Inter-American Institute for Agricultural Sciences, and she bore her oldest children, Charlotte and Robert. The family lived in Wayland, and later in Amherst, Massachusetts. Lois and John retired to Colorado Springs and then moved to Fort Collins. Lois was an evangelical Christian who supported missionary groups and other Christian organizations. She enjoyed talking about her faith and it gave her great strength and meaning in her life. Some of her other loves were children, music, and travel. As the children went off to college Lois began part time secretarial work at the UMass Graduate Research Center. She enjoyed playing the organ for church services, including the Leverette Church. She also enjoyed the family sabbatical to Europe in 1967. Thereafter, she continued to travel to the Holy Land and Eastern Europe on her own. In their later years, John and Lois traveled the together by car, enjoying the nation's parks and scenery. Above all, Lois's life was dedicated to the Lord. Her faith was her life and it was unwavering. Lois is survived by her sister Eileen Havens of Honeoye Falls, NY, Layna McCabe of Albuquerque New Mexico, her son Robert Havis of LaPorte, Colorado, her daughters Charlotte Rathke of Greeley, Colorado and Holly Havis of Greenville, Virginia, four grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
