Lloyd Lair has left this world to join Lillian, his beloved wife of 72 years.
Lloyd was born March 24, 1914 in Eaton, Colorado to Harold and Sadie Lair. He graduated from Colorado A&M now CSU in 1936. While in college, on a football scholarship, he turned down a contract with the Detroit Lions Football team and instead he began his life's career as a pilot through the government's Civil Pilot Program. He entered the army during World War II and was assigned to the Army Air Corps as a Flight Officer. After the war he returned to Fort Collins in 1945 and became a Civilian flight instructor and a FAA designated pilot examiner until 1982. During that time he was also a Corporate Pilot for the Pat Griffin Companies as well as an agency Supervisor and Corporate Pilot for American National Insurance Co. He was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church. Lloyd was also active in the Elks Organization and spent many years as a volunteer with the RSVP Medicare Counseling Service and was active in the VITA program assisting seniors in preparing and filing their income taxes. He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers, one sister, a great-grandson, and his wife, Lillian. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Onstad of Fort Collins; granddaughters, Kim Tommy Keith of Colorado Springs, Stephanie John McCormick of Fort Collins; one great-grandson, Braden Keith of Fort Collins, and several nieces and nephews. The family gratefully thanks all of those at Pathways Hospice who gave him such consideration and wonderful care these last months. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Lloyd's memory to Pathways Hospice in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins, Colorado 80524. Friends may send condolences to the family at bohlenderfuneralchapel.com A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, 1005 Stover St. Rev. Charles Schuster will officiate at the service.
