Listen to Obituary
Lisa Jane Durey Bunten, 50, of Fort Collins, died May 9, 2009 at her home following an 18 month battle with leukemia. Lisa was born September 4, 1958 in Red Oak, Iowa to Charles Durey and Jane Campbell Durey. Mrs. Bunten worked as a Speech Therapist two years in Brush, Colorado from 1981-1983 and then at various schools in the Thompson R2J School District in Loveland until she retired just this year. Lisa also worked at the Poudre Valley Hospital as well as for Home Health Care firms providing care for stroke patients. Lisa was a member of PEO, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Junior League of Fort Collins, and Boy Scouts Troop 97. She was also a Tri-Delta Sorority Alumnus, receiving her bachelors degree at University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and masters degree at Colorado State University in Speech and Language Pathology. Lisa held various officer positions in the organizations listed above. It was through Lisa's involvement with the Junior League that she met her future husband Steve. Lisa was a loving person who opened her heart and would spend time with anyone. Even while she was undergoing one of her many chemo treatments Lisa would send cards of congratulations, condolences, birthdays, etc. When she was home she would have a friend or two over and would set the table for tea and some kind of treat, no matter how she was feeling. She always had a smile for anyone and treated all with love and respect. Survivors include her husband, Steve Bunten; four sons, Nicholas Garretson, Spencer Garretson, Devin Bunten, and Kyle Bunten; a daughter, Sarah Mike Allison; one stepbrother, John Jennifer Lorimor; two sisters, Chris Jim Heuer, Dawn Doug Duven, and two stepsisters Barb Ken Snyder and Deb Jim Grandos and numerous nephews and neices who will miss their Aunt Lisa. Preceding Lisa in death are her father, Charles Durey; mother, Jane Lorimor, and stepfather, Bob Lorimor. A Memorial Service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 1005 Stover St., on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. A visitation to greet the family will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions can be made to the "Gift of Life Transplant House" in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St., Ft. Collins, CO 80524. The "Gift of Life Transplant House" is where Lisa and Steve stayed in Rochester, MN, when she received a bone marrow transplant at the Mayo Clinic. The donations will be used to furnish a room in Lisa's memory at a new house they are building for transplant patients and their Care Givers.
