Lewis Velte Garton, of Fort Collins, CO died in his home, surrounded by his family on October 16, 2022. Lewis was 78 years old.
Lewis is survived by his wife of 55 years Linda of Fort Collins, CO, his children, Andrew of Colorado Springs, CO, Samuel of Billings, MT, and Edward of Denver, CO; his five grandchildren; his two great-grandchildren; and his sister Lois Daubert of Fort Collins, CO. He is preceded in death by his brothers, David and Robert; and his parents Crayton and Edna.
Lewis was born on June 3, 1944 in Fort Collins, CO to Crayton and Edna Garton. He graduated from Cache La Poudre High School and then attended Colorado State University, graduating with a degree in Construction Engineering in 1967. He married the love of his life Linda that same year. The pair moved to Glenwood Springs, CO where he started his 34 year career with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). Over six years, the couple welcomed three children into their home. Lewis provided for his family during his CDOT career and exhibited a passion for engineering through hard work on projects like the Glenwood Canyon, SH 115 (Academy Blvd) extension, SH 47, and SH 14 Bypass north of La Porte to name only a few. He started his career as an Aide A and ended his career as the Region 4 Construction Engineer. His wife and children remember him as a driven, practical man who encouraged them to pursue their goals.
In addition to his illustrious career, Lewis enjoyed traveling, camping, water skiing, tinkering with cars and working on his house and yard . He was a hard-working individual who enjoyed being outdoors in the Colorado mountains and spoiling his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an active and dedicated member of Plymouth Congregational Church of Fort Collins.
Lewis passed away peacefully in his home after an extended battle with COPD. He will be remembered as an excellent engineer, a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and brother who cherished family and appreciated friends.
A memorial to celebrate Lewis will be held at Plymouth Congregational Church on November 26th, 2022 at 11am. The family requests a donation to Neighbor To Neighbor ( Donate | Neighbor to Neighbor (n2n.org) ) instead of flowers.
