Lewis Leon Gaiter, Iii

Lew Gaiter III, long time resident of Fort Collins and more recently Livermore, Colorado, passed away September 18, 2018. He was born November 21, 1959, in Denver, CO and grew up in Littleton. He graduated from Littleton High School in 1977. He attended CSU for 2 years and then began working in the computer industry.

Lew and Jeannette Gaiter were married on March 14 of 1981, in Fort Collins, CO. Shortly thereafter they moved to California for 5 years where Lew worked for several computer companies including Spectralogic. Realizing there was no place like home, they returned to Colorado in August of 1986. Lew worked for HP for 6 years, becoming one of the original authors of HP Openview. In 1992 he took early retirement and started StarFire Enterprises. After the tech crash of 2001, Lew worked for United Airlines, CSU and other companies as a network software engineer. In 2009 he received his first cancer diagnosis. One year later, in January 2010, he became the District 1 Larimer County Commissioner. He has been honored to serve in that capacity since then.

Lew was an avid skier and was a volunteer ski patroller for 25 years. He attended Broncos games with his family and enjoyed cooking for family and friends. He participated in several non-profit boards including Christian Home Educators of Colorado and Realities for Children. Homeschooling was very important to Lew and his children were all homeschooled to some point and 5 of his grandchildren are currently being homeschooled.

He is survived by his wife, Jeannette, and his children, Steffany, Jon, Micah, Elijah, Josiah, Shama, Samuel, Lewis IV and Daniel and grandchildren, Rebekah, Jeremiah, Benjamin, Hannah, Joanna and Grant. He is also survived by his mother, Sandra Gaiter and siblings, Byron, Kimberli Kegu, Zachary, and Aaron. He was preceded in death by his father, Lew Gaiter Jr., aka CoooL Lew.

A Memorial Service will be held October 20, 2018 at 10:00 am at: Timberline Church, 2908 S. Timberline Rd., Fort Collins, CO 80525. Reception will follow immediately after the service.
