Leonard Arment

Leonard E. Arment, 85, of Fort Collins, died Jan. 27, 2007, and joined his loved ones and the Lord our God. Leonard was born Sept. 19, 1921, in Powshiek, Iowa, to Howard Arment and Verna Wood Arment. Leonard was a member of the Army/Air Corp and landed in Normandy on D 6. He drove semi throughout France, Belgium and Germany while participating in the Red Ball Express. Leonard earned five battle stars along with other commendations. For 15 years, starting in 1980, he enjoyed WWII reunions with his fellow comrades. He married Veda E. Jordan on May 28, 1940, in Grinnell, Iowa. They moved with their family in 1953 to Fort Collins from Iowa. Leonard worked for Larimer County for 27 years as a bridge supervisor. Leonard supervised the building of scores of bridges throughout Larimer County and they remain as a testament to his abilities and dedication to his profession and his love for Larimer County. He and his family joined American Baptist Church after helping construct the church and is still a member. Leonard was a member of the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans for 60 years. Leonard enjoyed country music and Mexican food. Everyone in Fort Collins knew Leonard and enjoyed his sense of humor. He had a great undying faith in the Lord. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter, great-granddaughters and great-grandson. He will be dearly missed by all. Survivors include three sons, Keith L. Arment and his wife Christy of El Cajon, Calif., Patrick L. Arment, and Max L. Arment of Bellvue; three grandchildren, Sheila, Jackie and Jon; and seven great-grandchildren, Tawny, Christmas, Kody, Joshua, and Jackie's three girls. Mr. Arment is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Veda; a brother, Raymond Arment; a son, Robert Lee Arment; granddaughter, Michelle Arment; and a great-grandson, Ryan Ridenour. A funeral service will be held at Bohlender Funeral Chapel at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will follow with military honors by the All Fort Collins Honor Guard at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery. Those who desire may view Leonard from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
