Leona Woeber

Leona Mae Woeber died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005. She is survived by her husband, Donald Harold Woeber; her children, Jeffrey M. Woeber and wife, Shelly, and Kurt B. Woeber; and one brother. She was preceded in death by her father and a son, Jason. Leona was born to Albert and Duela Ford, a Colorado territorial pioneer family, on Aug. 21, 1937, in Denver. Leona graduated from Adams City High School and Colorado State University. She married Don Woeber on Sept. 28, 1962, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fort Collins with Don's West Point classmates as saber bearers. As an Army wife, she followed Don on military assignments to Fort Carson, Fort Sill, and Germany, but always came back to Fort Collins when Don was deployed to Vietnam. She was the secretary and treasurer of the Auxiliary of the Military Officer's Association. Leona was the assistant to Dr. Tu at CSU since 1976 in the biochemistry department. She was active in the Red Hat Society and other church activities. Bridge and hiking have been her main hobbies. She and Don had climbed most of Colorado's "fourteeners." Leona has been active in the CSU International Program. Her biggest passion was her involvement in The Pioneer Association and Fort Collins Historical Society. Contributions may be made to the Leona Woeber Memorial Fund for Historic Preservation in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Family and friends are invited to a memorial Mass and service at 2 p.m. today at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 5450 S. Lemay Ave.
