Lawrence W. Hall

July 20, 1926 — January 25, 2016

Listen to Obituary
Lawrence W. "Pete" Hall passed away peacefully in his home on January 25, 2016. He was born July 20, 1926 in Palisade, Colorado to Bessie May and Harry Hall on a small farm. He beat the odds of being born prematurely in an era of limited medical care. Perhaps that was early evidence of the determination with which he lived much of his life.

He spent his school years in Palisade until 17 years of age, when he falsified his date of birth in order to join the Navy during WWII, where he finished his schooling and served as an Electrician's Mate until the war ended. He pursued a college education beginning at Mesa State in Grand Junction, Colorado, transferring to Colorado A&M (now Colorado State University) where he graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering. Following graduation he entered the Engineering Department at Poudre Valley Rural Electric Association, eventually to become the Director of Engineering. In his years with PVREA, he helped grow the utility from serving a few hundred rural customers to serving many thousands in a rapidly growing Colorado front range. He retired from PVREA after 36 years.

He met his future wife, Clara Annabelle "Annie" Manke, on a blind date in 1953. They were married November 14, 1954 in Fort Collins, Colorado where they settled down to start a family. Pete and Annie had three children, Larry Hall, Cindy Carrick and Steve Hall, all of Fort Collins.

For most of Pete's life he enjoyed camping, hiking and fishing with his family and friends. He loved his meat and potatoes, and indulging his sweet tooth whenever possible. He also thoroughly enjoyed reading, particularly science fiction and epic fantasy. He sorely missed the joy of reading when macular degeneration slowly stole his vision. The highlight of his later years was time spent with his two granddaughters Lyndsay and Alexis. He was looking forward to the birth of his first great grandchild due in April.

He has no surviving siblings, they all preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Annie Hall; his sons, Larry Hall and Steve Hall; his daughter, Cindy Carrick; his granddaughter and her husband, Lyndsay and Derrick Martinez; his granddaughter, Alexis Hall, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

No farewell words were spoken, no time to say goodbye, you were gone before we knew it, and only God knows why. We love you and miss you.
