Laverne Johnson, 77, of Fort Collins, moved on to a better place on Sun., Jan. 25, 2009. He was born on June 28, 1931 in Aledo, Ill. He was one of three children born to the late George and Nellie Johnson. He served in the Army and fought in the Korean War. Laverne married his beloved, late wife on May 3, 1975, in Alexis, Ill. They eventually moved to Fort Collins, and he became a custodian for C.S.U. During his retirement he enjoyed carving wood and visiting their many, many friends. There wasn't too many places you could go where someone didn't recognize him and come over and start a conversation. He was just that well liked. He is survived by his children Sharon Swanson, Bonnie Johnson-Hines, and Michael Johnson; and his stepchildren, Tim Sobie, Ralph Sobie, Danny Sobie, Larry Sobie, Sandy Melow, John Ester, Sam Ester, & Susan Elshof. He has 21 grandchildren, and 15, going on 16, great grand-kids. He has one brother Lloyd Johnson. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Fri., Jan. 30, 2009, at Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St. Ft. Collins, Colorado 80524. Military Honors will be conducted by the Fort Collins All Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
