Laurene Cain

Bessie Laurene Cain passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2010 in Surprise, AZ surrounded by her family. Laurene Aydelotte, a daughter given by the Lord to Clyde and Betty Aydelotte was born on June 5, 1917 in Dallas, Texas. At the age of two she lost her father to the 1919-20 flu epidemic. On August 15, 1933 she "just went swimming" with Charlie D. Cain. From that first date they became partners for life and were married on August 21, 1937 in Chickasha, Oklahoma. They had two children, Connie Beth and John Carl. During the war years they both worked for McDonald Douglas Aircraft Company in Oklahoma City, and at the end of the war returned to Sentinel, OK. Laurene worked as a bookkeeper and sales clerk for the Dixie Department store as well as raise a family. Laurene was active in The Eastern Star. She was also an avid high school and Oklahoma University football fan. In 1957 the family moved to Fort Collins, Colorado and Laurene went to work at Poudre Valley Bank as the first women teller. She continued to work at the bank for 18 years. Although she enjoyed the Colorado State Aggies/Rams her number one college team would always remain the OU Sooners. She and Charlie enjoyed square dancing, eating at the Safari Night Club, fishing and golf. Yes, she could bait her own hook with a worm. She was an avid Rockies and Bronco's fan and would discuss at length the success and failures of each game. She liked watching the Avalanche, but never understood what the blue and red lines were for. Each afternoon would find her playing along with Wheel-of-Fortune and Jeopardy. Laurene and Charlie moved from Fort Collins to Norman, Oklahoma to finish their working careers, again she went to work for a bank, and they both attended all of the OU home football games, as well as the dreaded Texas/OU matchup each year. After retirement, they returned to Fort Collins. In 1991 Charlie had a stroke and Laurene expanded her role as wife and partner to include primary care giver. Later that year they were featured on Good Morning America to show the effects of music therapy on stroke victims and also showcased their partnership of coping with the affects of living with the aftermath of a stroke. Throughout the many happy years of marriage, Laurene and Charlie were dedicated to their family and friends, reaching out to the ones they cared about when assistance was needed. Later in 1999 Laurene enrolled in the Fort Collins Senior Health program at the age of 82. During the next 10 years she walked over 2, 250 miles on their indoor track and participated three times a week in the stretching/exercise program. She also was an original member of the Saturday Breakfast Club; meeting her friends nearly every weekend for a good conversation and meal. Laurene was preceded in death by her mother and father, husband and partner, Charlie, as well as her three brothers, and one great-grandson. She is survived by her daughter, Connie Trent and husband, Barry; son, John and wife, Judy; 7 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. We give thanks to our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, for giving us a wonderful person who was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. We are all blessed to have known a wonderful and caring person. Services will be held Sunday, September 5, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
