Laura Marie Schott-Kling passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 in the comfort of her home in Fort Collins. This year she celebrated her 94th birthday. She was born in Timnath, Colorado to Anna "Stroh" and John Socolofsky on April 11, 1917. Her mother passed away during the flu epidemic of 1919 when Laura was 2 years old. She was raised by her maternal grandparents on the Stroh farm in Timnath until school age when she moved to Wellington to be raised by her father and older siblings. Laura married Herman H. Schott on November 13, 1936 in Boulder , Colorado and from this union two sons were born; Jerry A. and Richard L. The family resided on the family farm on East Vine Drive until the untimely death of Herman in an industrial accident at the Laporte Cement Plant in 1948. She married Alex Kling on June 10, 1951. A daughter, Karen was born during this marriage. Alex later perished in a car accident. She experienced great enjoyment working in her yard as well as her flower and vegetable gardens for as long as her health allowed. She was looking forward to the warmer weather so she could start spending more time outside. She especially enjoyed the Rocky Mountains and spent many hours driving these areas and always looked forward to trips to Estes Park. It was always a family joke that "Grandma followed the snow plow over Trail Ridge Road when it opened." She was preceded in death by her siblings, Lydia Helzer, Rachael Wich and Johnny Socolofsky. She is survived by her sons and daughter in laws, Jerry and Donna Schott of Ft Collins, Richard and Cathy Schott of Fort Collins and daughter, Karen Kling Rodgers of Cheyenne Wy. Grandchildren, Debra Lou Schott Hanks Gary of Eaton Colorado, Diane Lynn Schott Moen John of Virginia Dale, Colorado., Todd Allen Schott of Ft Collins and Melissa Kling of Minden Nebraska. Great-grandchildren, Breann and Brandon Alber of Ft Collins, Cody and Tracy Willbanks of Durango, Colorado, Jodi Willbanks of Eaton Colorado; Tad Moen of Virginia Dale and Tyler Schott of Ft. Collins. She is also survived by one great-great grandchild, Dayson Lane Willbanks of Durango. Honoring Laura's wishes, there will be no formal service at this time.
