Laura Jean Belleau passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2006, at Poudre Valley Hospital with family members by her side. Her strong, kind, hardworking, quiet, thoughtful, persevering spirit will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She leaves an insatiable void in the hearts of her husband, children and grandchildren. Laura was born June 19, 1934, in Kimball, Neb., to Fred and Lydia Meier and later moved to Pine Bluffs, Wyo. She attended high school at Platte Valley Academy in Shelton, Neb., where she was salutatorian, graduating in 1952. She was married to Robert Belleau on Feb. 22, 1953, spending 53 years of married life together. They lived in Lincoln and Falls City, Neb., before moving to Greeley, where they started Belleau Masonry Construction Co. They later owned and operated Pizza Inn in Fort Collins until moving to Estes Park in 1968, where they continued the contracting business. After retiring in 1991, they traveled for two years before moving back to Greeley in 1993. Since 2002, they have resided in Estes Park. Laura worked as a homemaker and was a mother of two. She also worked for Park School District and MCCA Mail Forwarding Service in Estes Park and Rocky Mountain Associates in Orthopedic Medicine in Loveland. As a volunteer she performed various activities for her church. Laura enjoyed crocheting, knitting, cooking and especially being with her grandchildren, supporting them through the years in soccer, baseball, football, and ice skating. Her favorite time was being on the beach in California. She is survived by her husband, Robert, of Estes Park; sons, Jerry with wife Sarah and Roger with wife Louise both of Fort Collins; and grandchildren, Nicholas, Daniel, Elizabeth, and Thomas. Also surviving is her sister, Wilma Jensen of Lincoln, Neb.; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Fred and Lydia Meier, and her brother Rueben Meier. Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1002 21st Ave. in Greeley. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pastor John Martin will officiate at the services. A celebration of life fellowship will follow for family and friends.
