Korey "PhillupClinics" Benton (Stein)
Born July 18, 1984 in Wichita, Kansas to Ruth (Darnall) Freeman. He was raised in Sedan, Kansas where he attended elementary and middle school, playing baseball and basketball. Ruth and Korey moved to Longmont, Colorado and Korey graduated from Longmont High School in 2002; Korey moved to Fort Collins, CO that fall.
Korey worked in the food industry -- several restaurants before he started as a dishwasher at The Worthington, an independent living home for seniors, and worked his way into the head chef position. He also loved earning money from the stock market, passionate about finding new startups to invest in. He loved sharing his learnings and helping friends with their investments and stock trading.
Korey's other hobbies included watching and playing basketball, hiking, listening to music, writing raps, collecting Nike shoes, albums and sports cards and making people laugh. Korey will be remembered for his generous and kind heart, his humor, his gregarious personalityand his love for all people. "Everyone love everyone" was a personal aspiration and his lasting legacy.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents -- Charles Benton Darnall, Geraldine (Clawson) Darnall and Douglas Lingwood; Naomi Lingwood was his grandmother.
Korey is survived by his mother Ruth (Darnall) Freeman (Sedan, KS), sister Kristan Curren Sampson, brother-in-law Jake Sampson, nephew Lincoln Sampson, nieces Holland and Eliza Sampson (all of Carlsbad, CA), his best friends Marc Mueller and Katie Hinch (Ft. Colins, CO), and hundreds of friends that felt as close as family.
A Celebration of Korey's life will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
