Kimberly Heustis

Kimberly Kay Heustis died July 30, 2005, after an 18-month battle with cancer. She was born Nov. 15, 1963, in Whittier, Calif., to Al and Sandy Hagee. Kim spent most of her early years growing up in California, where she enjoyed being a cheerleader, swimming, horses and music. In her teen years, she moved to Arizona and ended up in Colorado in 1984. Kim married Todd Heustis on Aug. 10, 1985, at Front Range Baptist Church in Fort Collins, and life got even more interesting! Kim was a very outgoing person and enjoyed singing, photography, fishing and traveling, but gardening was, hands-down, her favorite pastime. She spent hours upon end tending her garden and planting all her favorite flowers. Kim also enjoyed working and was proud of the jobs she held. She spent time in many different careers such as sales, management, drug screenings and the medical equipment field. Some of her most rewarding work involved working with people and helping them appreciate things she had come to love. She coached girls basketball at Front Range Baptist Academy for four years, and her teams even won a few state championships. She also loved to teach and volunteered her time to teach the yearbook class at Front Range. She took pleasure in working with kids even after her diagnosis of cancer and continued to volunteer at the school and helped with fund-raisers and playground duties. Most important to Kim was her spiritual life. She loved her Lord and Savior and looked for opportunities to serve in her church. She spent much time at church helping teach a Sunday school class with her husband for many years. Surviving Kim is her husband, Todd Heustis; daughter, Melody Heustis; son, Brandyn Heustis, stationed at McChord Air Force Base; son, Garrett Heustis and daughter, Anna Heustis, all of Fort Collins; her father, Al Hagee and wife, Trudy, of Apple Valley, Calif.; mother, Sandy Rathgeber, and husband, Glen, of Fort Collins; brother, Jeff Hagee and wife, Amy, and son, Matt, of Highlands Ranch; sister, Tracey Hagee and sons Marc and Chris, of Fort Collins; sister, Jenny Truenbach and husband, Bruce, and daughter, Annika of Duluth, Minn.; and in-laws, Bill and Margaret Heustis. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Front Range Baptist Church, 625 E. Harmony Road, with interment to follow at Grandview Cemetery. Viewing will be at Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St.
