Kenneth Ray Thompson age 68 passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2018 in Wellington, Colorado after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Denver, Colorado on May 24, 1949 to Cecil Ray and Shirley LaVerne (Duncan) Thompson.
He spent his early educational years in Wellington and graduated with the class of 1967 from Kearns High School in Kearns, Utah. Upon graduating from High School Ken enlisted in The United States Navy and served in The Vietnam War as a "Radio Man Third Class". He was stationed in Vietnam, Thailand & Hawaii. His service in Vietnam was Ken's most proudest accomplishment.
He met Brenda Marie Whitmill in Salt Lake City, Utah and they were married on October 12, 1974 in Wellington, Colorado.
He drove truck for Commercial Carriers in the earlier years of their marriage.
They purchased the T-Bar Inn in Wellington and turned it into a family business along with his parents.
Ken and Brenda moved to Libby, Montana for a few years where they purchased and ran a motel. They loved Montana and had land where they hoped to someday build a home in their beautiful Mountains.
They returned to Wellington and continued to run the T-Bar Inn. He worked side by side with the love of his life, Brenda, for over 40 years. He was fully committed not only to his business but to the people of the community. He gave many youth their first job, supported various community events and had a great love to help those in need.
Ken had many hobbies and interests. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved his Oldsmobile 442 and rebuilding other classic cars. He enjoyed riding his Harley, going out on his boat and listening to music especially Led Zeppelin. He liked watching old westerns and was a fanatic fan of the 49ers.
He had an undying love for his dogs Buck, Rowdy, Boagie, Libby, Huckleberry, and Bear.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil; a brother, Terry Allen Thompson; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda; his mother, Shirley and many other family members.
He was well known and went by Ken, Kenny, Kenny Ray and KT, but to most he was known as their friend.
A memorial will be held from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the T-Bar Inn, 3803 W Cleveland Avenue, Wellington, Colorado. 12:00 pm Military salute followed by a Celebration of Life.
