Kenneth Dwight Jan

September 19, 1932 — March 13, 2023

Listen to Obituary
Kenneth "Ken" Jan, age 90, joined his loving wife and soulmate, Pat Jan, for eternity on Monday, March 13, 2023. He is survived by his two "favorite" daughters, Janelle Jan and Janette Jan Dickey (John) both of Fort Collins, Colorado, his beloved grandchildren, Erica Jean Kyle (Adam) of Palmdale, California, Alexander "Alex" Michael Andrews (Amie) of Eagar, Arizona and Edward "Eddie" Allen Andrews (Stormy) of Longmont, Colorado, and his great granddaughter Hazel Jean Kyle of Palmdale, California. Ken was greeted by those preceding him in death, his father, Louis V. Jan, his mother, Maurine Evelyn Jan, and his three brothers, Lloyd Jan, Lowell Jan, and Gerald Jan. The person preceding him in death that he missed the most, however, was his wife, Patricia Jan.

Ken was born on September 19, 1932, in Austin, Minnesota, to parents Louis and Marine Jan. Ken served in the Navy on the USS Isbell during the Korean War from January 1951 to November 1954. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal (4 stars), United Nations Service Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal (Asia) and the China Service Medal. He also spent many years working in maintenance in both the Denver area and in the mountain community of Glacier View and Crystal Lakes, Colorado.

Ken married the love of his life, Pat Jan, on August 14, 1970. The Jan family lived an idyllic life in the mountains Ken loved so much in both Red Feather lakes from 1974 to 1979 and Glacier View Meadows from 1979 to 2012. The home in Glacier View was known to all his grandchildren as "the Big House" and the entire family will forever fondly remember the time spent there feeding the deer, playing all-night poker and sitting in the wood burning hot tub with their grandma and grandpa.

He taught his grandchildren the meaning of hard work and the joy of relaxing by a wood-burning stove. He was a kind man who always jumped into projects, helped without expecting thanks, and laughed abundantly with his friends and family. He was a shrewd card-player and taught his grandchildren that everything earned was the sweeter for having earned it.

Ken was a cherished husband, loving father and devoted grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Once they retired, Ken and Pat traveled all over the United States and Mexico in their motorhome enjoying many years of adventure being "snowbirds". Ken often reflected on those times as the best in his life. After the death of his wife, Ken continued to travel internationally on several cruises, including Cuba, the Caribbean and Mexico with his daughters.

The one thing Ken loved most in life was his family. The loss of this kind, funny and generous man will forever leave a void in this world, but his surviving family is left so much better off having had him as their father and grandfather.
