Kenneth Coffman

Kenneth W. Coffman entered into rest on May 6, 2001, surrounded by his loving family at Hospice Care Center in Loveland. Ken was born March 18, 1925, in Yellow Springs, Ohio, to J. Millard and Margaret McCarty Coffman. He was raised on a farm in Xenia, Ohio. He graduated from Xenia Central High School in 1943, and entered the Army Dec. 8, 1944. He served three years in World War II, in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and was awarded three bronze battle stars, a victory medal, and an Army of Occupation Medal in Japan. Ken achieved the rank of Tech Sergeant. He returned home to Xenia in November of 1946, and met Mary Louise Bertrand in April of 1948. They were married in February of 1949. Ken attended Cincinnati College of Embalming, and graduated in August of 1949. Ken founded the Coffman Funeral Home in Yellow Springs in 1954 and merged with Arthur Lytle in 1964 to form the Jackson, Lytle & Coffman Funeral Homes in both Springfield and Yellow Springs, Ohio. He was a funeral director for 35 years. Ken was a member of the Northwood Hills Country Club and the Springfield Country Club. He served on the Board of Directors at Springfield Community Hospital, served as President of the American Cancer Society of Clark County, Ohio, and was President of the Lions Club in Yellow Springs and Springfield, Ohio. He was also a 32Degree Mason in the Xenia, Ohio Lodge. Ken most enjoyed his wife, children and his grandchildren. Other hobbies included golf, bridge, tennis, piloting his Cessna aircraft, motorhome travel, and reading. Ken and his wife retired to Florida in 1982, and moved to Fort Collins, to be with their family in 2006. Ken is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Lou, of Fort Collins; daughter, Marilyn Bonnette; son-in-law, Edward C. Bonnette; grandchildren, Katie of Boise, Idaho and Michael Bonnette; daughter, Carol Steinhauer; son-in-law, Lary Steinhauer; and grandson, Andrew Steinhauer, all of Fort Collins. He also leaves his sister, Charlene Blocher, of Xenia, Ohio. The family wishes to express its appreciation to the wonderful staff at Hospice for the loving care which was given to Ken and those close to him. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 West Olive St. Pastor David Niquette will officiate at the service. A visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver with military honors. Memorial contributions in Ken's name may be made to the Hospice of Larimer County, in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
