Keith Powers, 88, went home to be with the Lord on March 14, 2011. He was a lifelong resident of Wellington, born on the family's farm, February 1, 1923. He was the son of William Buffington and Beulah Powers. He married Shirley Eileen Keirnes on December 24, 1944. He is survived by three children, Roxanna Jones of Ft. Collins, Leslie Powers and wife, Linda of Wellington, Rhonda Fitch and husband, Ed of Wellington; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grand children; and a sister, Velva Marcus of Aurora. He was preceded in death by parents, wife, brother, Leslie Powers; sisters, Maxine Snook and Natalie Thompson. Keith worked on the family farm for many years. He then moved into the town of Wellington where he was elected Mayor for two terms in the 70's. He actively served on the Town Board of Wellington for many years. He was a member of the volunteer fire department, Lions Club, and served on the board of the Wellington Community Church where he was a member all of his life. Keith graduated from Wellington High School in 1941. He served in the military in World War II and was stationed in the Philippines. Keith worked for the Western Slope Gas Company retiring in 1985. He is sorely missed by his family and friends who were a great part of his life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pathways Hospice in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins, Colorado 80524. Those who wish may view Mr. Powers on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at Wellington Community Church, 8445 Third Street. An Interment with Military Honors with the Fort Collins All Veterans Honor Guard will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
