Kathryn Marie Hazlett

Kathryn Marie Hazlett – 92 years

Kathy was born in Omaha NE on December 26, 1933 to Jerry and Kate Selacek. Early in life, she and her family moved to Des Moines IA, where she graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School (“The Rail Splitters”).

She attended Iowa State University and the University of Iowa, where she met Robert Hazlett. They married on September 8,1956 in Des Moines IA. She was proceeded in death by husband Robert in 2019 after 63 years of marriage.

After their marriage. her family moved to Socorro NM, Elmhurst IL, and Las Cruces NM, where Robert pursued his career in teaching and coaching gymnastics. In retirement Kathy and Robert moved to Fort Collins Colorado in 1994, where they were active in Timnath Presbyterian Church in Timnath CO.

She was active in First United Presbyterian Church, Las Cruces NM and active in Church Women United in Las Cruces (President) and Fort Collins. She received the Valiant Woman Award for Church Women United in Fort Collins in 2008.

Kathy was President of the New Mexico State University Faculty Women Club, where she received a special Resolution for her service from the NMSU Board of Regents in 1991. She was also active in the Colorado State University Faculty Women Club, where she organized fundraisers and entertaining events.

Kathy loved Camp Fire Girls. She served as a camper and staff member at her beloved CFG Camp Hantesa in Boone IA. Kathy served as a volunteer leader in Camp Fire for a number of years and later became the Executive Director of the Towane Council, Camp Fire Council in Las Cruces. She was awarded the Golden Ember Camp Fire Honor for Service in 1985.

She loved her brother, husband, children, in-laws, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Kathy also loved her husband’s flower and veggie gardens, several dogs, playing bridge, and watching figure skating.

Kathy is survived by brother Jerry Sedlacek and sister-in-law Marge Sedlacek of Kettering Ohio, daughter Kim Beierl and son- in-law John Beierl, grandson Bryan Beierl, granddaughter Bethany Folse (Daniel Folse), great grandson Sean Folse, great granddaughter Ciara Folse, all of New Orleans LA, Mark Hazlett, son, of Fort Collins CO, daughter Karen Martinez and son-in-law Alex Martinez, granddaughters Alex Rios (Pedro Rios) and Marisol Martinez , great granddaughters Carolina Rios, Isabel Rios and Leticia Rios, all of Wellington CO and nephew Eric Sedlacek of Arlington VA and niece Sarah Sedlacek of Woodbridge VA.

A memorial service for Kathy will be held at 300 p.m. on October 17, 2026 at Timnath Presbyterian Church, Timnath CO. In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation to a charity assisting children in need of food or clothing.
