Katherine Marie Daugherty

Katherine (Kathy) Daugherty of Fort Collins, 83, passed away on January 7, 2021.
Kathy's husband of 60 years, Ned, died in 2019. Kathy is survived by her daughter Lynn (Rick); granddaughters (Emily and Maggie); her son Mike (Kathy).
Kathy grew up in Michigan. She completed her nursing degree in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
She and Ned moved to Colorado in the early 1960's. They enjoyed camping and hiking together in Colorado and the western United States, and in later years, near their cabin close to Red Feather Lakes. During their time together, they also traveled to Canada, Mexico, Hawaii and to Western Samoa to visit Mike while he was in the Peace Corps.
Kathy loved the beauty of the outdoors, including birds, flowers, butterflies and the great vistas of the Rocky Mountains. She was particularly fond of hummingbirds, cardinals and columbine flowers.
Music was always important to Kathy. She always had music, especially classical music, playing in the background. Kathy and Lynn used to challenge each other's musical knowledge by playing "name the composer" when listening to classical music.
Kathy was generous of heart and spirit. She was a devoted friend, keeping in touch with friends from nursing school, church friends and neighbors until her death.
She was a long-time mailing volunteer at the Lincoln Center, St. John's Lutheran Church and Peace with Christ Lutheran Church. At the Lincoln Center she was in charge of the mass mailings for many years.
Her family also remembers her cookies, especially oatmeal cookies and springerle (a German cookie from her childhood), birthday cakes in the shapes of animals, and help with Halloween costumes.
No memorial service is planned at this time but may be held at a later date.
