August 23, 1931 – May 23, 2009 Kathy L. Maxey was born in Greeley, Colorado to Carl W. and Lucille Fisher Henry. Kathy's mother passed away when Kathy was 10. Her Aunt, and in later years Stepmother Marion, oversaw her upbringing in Greeley through the Auburn School and Greeley High School. Kathy graduated from Colorado A&M in 1953 with a degree in Home Economics Education. In the 1940's her parents moved back to the Henry Dairy Farm near Kersey Colorado. Her father had purchased the 1914 where he developed the award winning Valentine Holstein Dairy Herd and a milk processing facility. She enjoyed riding with her father as they delivered bottled milk in the Greeley area. Her father Carl, mother Lucille, step mother Marion, older half brothers James L., Charles L., and half sister Elizabeth A. Henry all preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of 54 years Loren R. Maxey, son Carl R. Marla Maxey of Fort Collins, daughters Barbara Glenn Streeter of Mead, and AnitaAaron Harrington of Thornton. Her surviving grandchildren are Clayton and Caleb Maxey, Stone, Slade, and Samantha Streeter, Reed, Macklin, and Ginger Harrington. Kathy worked her college summers as an intern with the Weld County Extension office. Following her graduation from Colorado A&M, she taught Home Economics at Rocky Ford High School for two years. After her marriage to Loren in 1955, she was a research assistant in the Home Economics department at the University of Illinois - Champaign. During the years 1958-59 she and Loren lived on the Henry Farm in Greeley. The farm has since been continually owned and managed by her brother-in-law George Maxey and his family. After moving to Fort Collins in the fall of 1959, Kathy taught adult education classes in Home Economics. She was a judge in Home Economics at many county fairs and shows. Later she was a 4-H club leader for several children in the area north west of the CSU campus. In 1969 Kathy and Loren started Maxey Mfg. Co. where she served as the Corporate Secretary, Bookkeeper, and Title Clerk for the firm. She retired from the Maxey Companies, Inc. in 2007, while remaining active as a company shareholder. Kathy and Loren were partners in LOKA Associates, a property management partnership with rental housing and commercial property leasing ventures. Kathy was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority, Beta Sigma chapter and a Fort Collins Alumnae chapter officer, member and officer of the Fort Collins Quota International Service Club, Member of P.E.O. Chapter E.B. Fort Collins, and an officer of the Fort Collins Historical Society. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed playing in the Bell Choir, being a member and officer of the Mariners Couples Club as well as District Skipper, a member of the Presbyterian Women, Sarah Circle; along with teaching in the Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. Kathy is a Life Member of the CSU Alumni Association and a 50 year football season ticket holder. She also enjoyed attending men's and women's basketball and volleyball games. She participated in CSU Home Economics Department activities and the 50 Year Alumni Club. Contributions in Kathy's memory may be made to any of the following in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel. First Presbyterian Church Columbarium Fund, Quota International Foundation, Delta Zeta Foundation, CSU Department of Applied Human Sciences, Pathways Hospice, Poudre Valley Hospital Foundation, and the American Cancer Society. A memorial service will be held May 31 at 2:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church, 531 S. College, Fort Collins. A reception for family and friends will follow.
