Karna GeneAnn Brown Smith of Thornton and formerly of Fort Collins, passed away at her home at the age of 45. Karna is the daughter of Jerry P. and JoAnn Brown of Nunn, CO. She is also survived by her sister, Patricia Truax and her husband, Brendon of Nunn, CO. She has a nephew, Landon P. and nieces, Kelsey and MacKenna Truax. Karna married Steven D. Smith on August 8, 1992. Steve passed away in December of 2014 and has a son, Andrew Smith-Mebust of Sparks, NV.

Karna was born in Fullerton, CA and moved to Fort Collins at the age of 8 and attended Shepardson Elementary, Boltz Junior High and graduated from Fort Collins High in 1989. At Fort Collins High School, she was drum major for marching band and All State first string catcher for her softball team. She also played competitive softball on the Fort Collins Buckaroos. She then attended Colorado State or University pursuing a degree in Broadcast Journalism. While at CSU she was in the marching and pep bands.

Karna's professional career began at Columbine Cablevision, Channel 14, in Fort Collins as a television production assistant making commercials and producing the nightly news cast. Her journey in television led her to Yuma, AZ where she met and married Steve and continued onto Rock Island, Il, Des Moines, IA, Minneapolis, MN and finally Denver where she worked at Channel 7 as a television director for 10 years. Karna won several Cable Ace awards, Telly Award and two Emmys for her 24 years' of excellence in broadcasting.

The lights of Karna's life were her two nieces and nephew. She attended many of their sporting events and music programs. She also was an avid fur baby lover. Throughout her life she always had a menagerie of dogs and cats. As a family, we always had FFF, Forced Family Fun. All of our vacations were always together to Disneyworld, Daytona 500, Okaloosa Island, FL, Mexico and of course, cheering on the CSU Rams.
