JP was born Juan Pablo Lima Camacho on March 22, 2005 in Cuauhtemoc, Chihuahua, Mexico. He was the fourth child born to Juan Lima Estrada and Norma Camacho Vidal. At the time of his birth, he had three older siblings - Sandra, Emmanuel, and Brenda. He was born in a makeshift shelter on a dirt floor with no running water or electricity. His birth parents dealt with addictions, poverty, and some intellectual disabilities. While they were unable to give him a stable home, they gave him life. We are incredibly grateful for that. Soon after his birth, he was placed in the orphanage where his siblings lived called Casa de la Esperanza in Anahuac, Chihuahua. He was immediately embraced and taken care of by his older siblings.
Eventually Bob and Ruth Casey would meet him, along with their four sons - Patrick, Wade, Corey, and Zachary. After a two-year process, the Caseys adopted Sandra, Emmanuel, and Juan Pablo. Their sister, Brenda, at approximately the same time was adopted by a family in Mexico. In a beautiful and evolving twist, the siblings have recently reconnected and are rebuilding their family ties.
When the adoption process was finished in February of 2008, JP and his siblings moved to Fort Collins, Colorado with the Caseys. And what a joyous uniting of family it was! JP was 2 years and 11 months old.
Six years ago, Juan Pablo suddenly developed a heart condition that perplexed a vast team of doctors at Children's Hospital Colorado and beyond. Much was done to treat, stabilize and manage his condition by these incredible doctors, that surely lengthened his life. Despite these measures, heart failure eventually took Juan Pablo's life on Friday night November 28, 2025.
But let's focus on his life. That boy — there was no one quite like him. To know him was to love him. He truly was one-of-a-kind. Most everyone who has sent us messages has mentioned his joy, his smile and his laugh.
As a little boy, you have never known someone who moved as much as JP. He was in constant motion. A friend called him the Energizer Bunny on speed. He loved being outside playing any kind of ball he could find. He would often play the part of the player, the coach, and the commentator all at the same time. It was so funny!
As he grew, he truly tried to be a friend to all. Young/old, popular/unpopular, whomever. He just loved people. He remembered everyone's name. The highest compliment we can pay him is that he loved people.
While his death came as a deep shock with unfathomable sadness for us, it was no surprise to God. God knew the number of his days all along. We take comfort that he is wrapped in the arms of Jesus. We're all looking forward to the day we each see him in heaven.
He was the youngest and the smallest, but somehow the biggest presence in the room. What a guy! What a blessing to have gotten to be his family for 18 years.
We love you and miss you, JP!
He is survived by his birth mother - Norma Camacho Vidal; his birth siblings - Sandra Casey, Emmanuel Casey, and Brenda Betancourt Valverde; his adoptive parents - Bob and Ruth Casey; his adoptive siblings and their spouses and child - Patrick and Nicole and Boswell, Wade and Hannah, Corey and Angie, and Zachary.
JP's service will be held on Saturday, December 13 at 10 am at Timberline Church in the south auditorium (enter on the south side of the building). In lieu of flowers, if you so desire, donations can be made to Casa de la Esperanza or Children's Hospital Colorado.
