The life of J.T. Thurber, who departed this world on August 7, 2025, is a testament to the vibrant spirit that he shared with everyone around him. Born on January 10, 1959, in Lawrence, KS, to Robert and Marie (Zuverino) Thurber, J.T. was the fourth of five siblings. His love for sports blossomed early on—particularly through his high school basketball achievements. A proud Jayhawks supporter, he carried the spirit of his alma mater with him while creating joyful memories steeped in Italian family traditions, where the kitchen was filled with laughter and delicious aromas thanks to his mother and grandmothers.
Relocating to Fort Collins in the early '80s, J.T. found his partner for life, Vickie Frank, and together they built a beautiful 40-year journey. Known affectionately by friends as a "walking sports encyclopedia," his passion for sports was evident in every conversation, and his cherished collection of bobbleheads and memorabilia reflected a life dedicated to the games he loved. He also enjoyed greyhound off-track betting, and had an uncanny knack for predicting the winners. His beloved West Highland White Terrier, Buster, was always by his side.
Above all, J.T.'s remarkable gift was his infectious sense of humor, effortlessly bringing people together and forging friendships wherever he went. As we remember J.T., we celebrate not only his incredible legacy but also the warmth and connection he fostered, leaving us inspired to embrace our passions and share laughter, just as he did.
J.T. was preceded in death by his father Robert, his sister Lori Thurber, and his mother Marie. He is survived by his wife Vickie, sisters Kenna Tait and Nance Maguire, and brother Bob Thurber.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, August 20th, 2025 at Bohlender Funeral Chapel in Fort Collins, followed by a reception at 12:00 pm at the Rio Grande Agave Room in Fort Collins.
