Joyce Ann Wonenberg, age 58, died peacefully in her beloved mountain home in Red Feather Lakes, CO, on January 3rd, 2021, after a 2 ½ year battle with cancer.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Wesley Wonenberg, of Red Feather Lakes, CO; her daughter Julia Kokes of Colorado Springs, CO; her sister Jill Sauter of Greeley, CO; her sister Janice Tucker of Red Feather Lakes, CO; her sister Joan McCormick of Abengdon, MD; her brother Melvin Baer of Albuquerque, NM; her brother David Baer of Greeley, CO; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Joyce was born on June 9th, 1962, in Fort Morgan, CO, to Robert A. Baer and Jean F. Wiggins. She graduated from Wiggins High School in 1980 then moved to Kersey, CO, in 1985 with her then husband, Mike Kokes (deceased) and daughter Julia. In 1996, Wesley Wonenberg entered Joyce's life. Wes and Joyce were married on May 21, 2006, shortly after moving to their dream home in Red Feather Lakes, CO, where they lived happily in love for over 20 years.
Joyce spent several years running her own housecleaning business during her years in Northern Colorado. After moving to the foothills, she began working as a cook for the Girl Scouts of America and Magic Sky Ranches.
Joyce was a beacon of light and kindness in this world; the eternal optimist and ultimate giver. She will be missed deeply by those who were fortunate enough to be touched by her soul.
Services will be held at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, attendance will be by invite only as spaces are limited. Live stream video of the service will be available for those who cannot attend in person and will be available at 1 p.m., Sunday, January 17th, 2021
