Joseph was born March 15, 1931, in Emporia, Kan., to Bessie Lee and Joseph Reid Evans. The family moved to Lincoln, Neb., in 1941. He married Joan Elizabeth Johnson on Sept. 5, 1952, in Lincoln. Joseph studied linguistics at the University of Nebraska and the University of Kansas. He was an associate professor of French at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. He taught French language and literature at CSU from 1966 until 1992. He is survived by his wife, Joan; a son, John; two daughters, Kathy and Mary Ann; seven grandchildren, Alex, Samuel, Mairin, Lillian, Valerie, Marguerite and Camille; a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth; and two sons-in-law, Mark and Alfred. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 and was an avid bicyclist, reader of Renaissance and Medieval literature and Attack Pack member. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed John XXIII University Center, 1220 University Ave. Graveside services to be announced.
