John Samuel Woods, 79, of Berthoud, Colorado went home to the Lord on July 24, 2006, at home after a lengthy struggle with diabetic complications. He was born August 16, 1926, in Lamar, Colorado to Nell and Robert Howard Woods. He graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1944. After graduation he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in 1945 and was honorably discharged later that same year, as WWII came to an end. He served 8 years with the Air National Guard in Cheyenne, Wyoming and was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant in 1962. John married Betty Lou Yost of Cheyenne in February, 1946. Their marriage of 36 years, resulted in 5 children, 6 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Betty passed away in 1982. John attended CU in Boulder, Colorado and Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, California where he studied Aeronautical Engineering. After working a variety of jobs, including Boeing Aircraft in Bremmerton, Washington, John and Betty came to Loveland, in 1962, where John worked for Hewlett-Packard Company. He worked at HP for 28 years, retiring in 1990 as a technical writer. While raising his family in Loveland, John was known as GÇ£DadGÇ¥ to many of his kidsGÇÖ friends. Saturday night spaghetti dinners and GÇ£hootenanniesGÇ¥ were frequent fun for all. John was active in Little League and Boy Scouts. He served as Longs Peak Council Commissioner for the Scouts, and was awarded the Silver Beaver award for 37 years of service to the Scouts. He was also a member of the Order of the Arrow. A charter member of the Loveland Valentine City Barbershop Chorus, John enjoyed 23 years of singing with his many friends in the group. He was a member of Faith Evangelical Church in Loveland, and enjoyed several years of singing in the choir. In 1987, John married Barbara H. Hodson Buck of Berthoud. After retiring in 1990, John enjoyed painting and sketching, reading, astronomy, and other hobbies. He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Berthoud; a daughter, Karen Ashley of Lamore, California, daughter, Jan Conlon and husband, Bill of Mitchellville, Maryland; daughter, Sheri Adams and husband Brian, of Loveland, and son, Ross Woods and wife, Patty of Loveland, 6 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two stepdaughters, Christie Dawson and husband, Corey of Chesapeake, Virginia, and, Melanie Buck of Berthoud, 6 step-grandchildren, a sister, Patricia Sidwell of Tulsa, Oklahoma and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty in 1982, and by his son, John Thomas Woods in 1992. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Larimer County, Faith Church of Loveland, or the Valentine City Chorus, in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Ft. Collins, CO 80524. Memorial services will be held, Friday, July 28, 11:00 a.m. at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Pastor Jim Murphy will be officiating at the service. A private graveside service with military honors will be held at Loveland Burial Park.
