John Brewster Stevens, Jr., of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2026, at the age of 89, surrounded by his children. Born on December 14, 1936, in Syracuse, N.Y., John attended Vermont Academy, Hamilton College, and Cornell University, where he earned his Pre-Med, Hospital Administration Degrees and MBA.
During his career as a hospital administrator, John managed hospitals in Auburn, N.Y., Rochester, N.Y., Hays, KS, and Salisbury, MD, for 33 years. In his second career as an international consultant, he worked to improve healthcare systems in Slovakia, Ukraine, Egypt, Kenya, Rwanda, and Pakistan before retiring to Fort Collins.
John married his childhood sweetheart, Claire Cecelia Hawkins, on August 31, 1959. Together they had four children: Jennifer Susan, Holly Elizabeth, Trina Catherine, and John Brewster, III. Following Cecelia's passing in 2011, John shared a loving relationship with Linda Wilson and her family until his death. A dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, John was known for his strong work ethic, positive attitude, and wonderful sense of humor.
John is survived by his four children, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held at Washington Cemetery in Washington, N.J. Details regarding a Celebration of Life are forthcoming.
