John Sheaffer was born on May 23, 1945, in Quarryville, Pennsylvania to Jacob and Florence Sheaffer and passed away on July 15, 2024 at the age of 79 in Fort Collins, Colorado.
He went to schools in Pennsylvania, graduating in 1963. He earned a bachelors degree from Millersville University, going on to teach middle school science for a few years. Having visited Colorado, he was drawn to the mountains and attended Colorado State University earning a masters' degree in Atmospheric Science and worked as a research scientist for over 20 years at CSU. Upon retirement, a small farm kept him busy with hay, supplying vegetables to a farmer's market and starting a vineyard.
He had lifelong interests in in weather, climate, planets and stars. He enjoyed outdoor activities included fishing, hiking, camping, and cross country skiing. Throughout his life, he enjoyed playing sports including soccer, football and basketball.
John married Debbie Turner in 1978. These loving friends were married for 45 years, having two sons – Stephen and Mark. He enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, hiking, working the farm, going to sporting events and viewing the stars.
He is survived by Debbie, Stephen, Mark and his brothers Robert Sheaffer (Elana) and William Sheaffer (Robin).
