John Rush

John Marvin Rush of Fort Collins, formerly of Wamego, Kan., died July 19, 2007, at the age of 73, at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins. Marvin was the loving husband of Judy Duncan Rush for 46 years and the caring and devoted father to JaNiece Rush-Frank of Maplewood, N.J., Mike Rush of Fort Collins, and Jennifer Rush, of Topeka, Kan. Marvin also leaves behind four grandchildren, Zach and Eliza Frank, and Cate and Ben Rush. Marvin was born in 1934 in Westmoreland, Kan., to John and Viola Kraushaar Rush. He was the youngest of four brothers; Robert Rush of Gardner, Kan., George Rush of Kansas City, Mo., and Jim Rush, who preceded him in death. Marvin and his brothers attended a one-room schoolhouse in Westmoreland, Kan., until he and his family moved to Kansas City, Mo., in 1944. Marvin graduated from Rose Dale High School and the Kansas City Technical College in Kansas City, Kan. He began his career with Kansas Farm Bureau in Manhattan, Kan., in 1960 where he worked in numerous management positions in the Information Systems Department for 37 years until his retirement in 1997. During his career with Kansas Farm Bureau, he also taught technology classes at Kansas State University and the Fort Riley Army Base. Marvin was also the owner of Standing Room Only Shoe Store in Manhattan for 13 years and after his retirement he and Judy operated Standing Room Only Antiques in Wamego for six years. Marvin was a member of the First Assembly of God Church of Manhattan and was also, at one time, a member of the Elks Lodge in Manhattan and the Lion's Club and Masonic Lodge in Wamego. He was a second-grade Sunday school teacher and little league baseball coach during the time his children were growing up. Marvin was known for his love of outdoor activities and could often be found fishing at the pond in front of the house he built for his family outside of Wamego where they lived for 40 years. His dedication to outdoor recreation filtered down to his children and now to his grandchildren. Marvin and Judy spent most of their lives in Wamego and loved the town where their children grew up. In 2006 they decided to move to Fort Collins so Marvin could have some "golden moments" with his son's family. Marvin will be missed by everyone who knew him, but his strong, gentle, loving nature and smile will live on. Marvin chose to be cremated.
