John A. Powelson, 82, of Fort Collins, died Friday, Nov. 4, 2005, at his home. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, 305 E. Elizabeth St. Pastor Brian Bestain will officiate. Cremation will be completed. John was born Dec. 1, 1922, in Rock Falls, Ill., the son of Judson Powelson and Bess Smith Powelson. He married Corrine Morgan in 1948 in Rockford, Ill. She preceded him in death in 1992. John served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He moved to Fort Collins in 1962 from Rockford, Ill. He was an engineer at Woodward Governor/Sales & Service. John was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, a volunteer at Poudre Valley Hospital, for the cities of Fort Collins and Windsor and was a member of the Elks and Moose Lodges. He is survived by a son, Matt Powelson of Denver; two daughters, Chris Powelson of Windsor and Amy Lee of Santa Rose, Calif.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
