The man. The myth. The legend: John Ragnar Long, age 44, passed away on November 20, 2017. He was born in Oslo, Norway on August 23, 1973 and died peacefully in his Fort Collins home with his wife, Amelia, by his side.

John was loved by many and inspired all who knew him. He dedicated his life to creating a more just and sustainable world. He gave boundless energy to building community, supporting the Northern Colorado environmental movement, and encouraging a world filled with music, laughter and love. John leaves a long legacy of endeavors that he helped to create including, but not limited to, Blue Sun Biodiesel, Zero Hero, the Sustainable Living Fair, Fat Pig Society/Colorado Hemp Farmers Cooperative, Northern Colorado Renewable Energy Society, Positive Legacy, the Atmosphere Conservancy, and Biodiesel for Bands. John was also an avid golfer (with his lowest handicap of 2!), team bowler (3 Hole Enthusiasts!), snowboarder (the higher the mountain the better!), and overall adventurer. He loved to travel, hike, river run, see live music, and instigate a good time!

John loved his wife and his family deeply, and was ever grateful for the many beautiful friends that he surrounded himself with on a regular basis. His enthusiasm for life and commitment to fun will never be forgotten, and his positive example of love and light will continue to inspire those he leaves behind. John will be remembered by friends and family as strong, radiant and kind. He is survived by his wife, Amelia Schmid, his father, John G. Long, his step-mother, Frankie Long, his sister, Vanessa J. Paulman, and his FoCo "Framily."

The family is not planning a memorial service since John was able to enjoy his own "Celebration of Life" at the Mishawaka on September 24. If you would like to make memorial gift, please help continue his legacy through Biodiesel for Bands. Their non-profit arm, STAMP (Sustainable Touring for Artists, Musicians and Performers) by sending a check to 619 South College Ave, Suite 4. Fort Collins, CO 80524 or calling 970-391-1933 for credit card donations.
