John Hoge

John S. Hoge beloved husband and father died Thursday June 29 in Poudre Valley Hospital at age 81. He was born in Chicago Jan 24 1925 the son of Blenda Westerberg and Solomon Hoge. During the great depression, John worked to support his family before entering the army. He was a medic in the 10th Mountain Division during World War II. He received the bronze star for his service in Italy. After his return from the war, John learned engraving and watch repair which led to his employment as a machinist at Woodward Governor of Rockford.Il In Rockford he met his wife the former Rosalia M. Zwinak deceased Sept. 1, 1999 and had two children John B. and Teresa A. During the early 1960GÇÖs he transferred to Woodward Governor of Fort Collins and relocated his family to Colorado. He retired as an electrical technician and manager from Poudre Valley Rural Electric Association after 25 years. He served with distinction as a Captain in the Colorado Civil Air Patrol performing many types of community service in addition to aiding in many searches for downed pilots in the mountains near Fort Collins. John was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a long time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. His passion for travel took him across the US as well as to Brazil and Europe. John also became an expert restorer of antique firearms and was an avid marksman. HeGÇÖll be remembered by many for his annual 4th of July Barbeque, his generous spirit, plentiful jokes and love of life. He is survived by his children John B. Hoge of New York and Teresa Byrd of North Carolina. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment with military honors by the Ft. Collins All Veterans Honor Guard will follow at Grandview Cemetery. Father Roger Lascelle will officiate at the services.
