John Haeussler, 93 years of age, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Water Valley Assisted Living facility in Windsor, Colorado.
John was born on December 17, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Armin and Margaret Haeussler. He grew up in Evansville, Indiana before attending Mercersburg Academy for High School in Pennsylvania. He graduated from Oberlin College in Ohio where he majored in History and sang in the Musical Union oratorio chorus. John served for three years in the U.S. Army in Europe, initially in Heidelberg, Germany and then for over two years in Orleans, France. From there, he traveled extensively throughout Western Europe.
After coming home from Europe, he moved to Chicago and worked in technical freight Traffic. He met his future wife, Marilyn Johnson, at Fourth Presbyterian Church. They were married in 1957 in Rockford, Illinois and moved to the Chicago suburbs where they had their two sons, Mark and Peter. John became a Registered Practitioner before the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC Practitioner) and Certified by the American Society of Transportation and Logistics. In 1967, he was employed by the Dow Chemical Company in Midland, Michigan, where he taught the technical aspects of transportation.
John and Marilyn moved to Fort Collins, Colorado to retire in 1993. Most of all, John loved to be with his family. He enjoyed traveling, skiing, hiking, reading and singing. He sang in choirs most of his adult life, including the choir at Redeemer Lutheran Church.
John is survived by his wife, Marilyn, sons Mark and Peter, daughters-in-law, Margaret and Katie, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be held Wednesday, September 11th, 2024 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. With the funeral service to follow at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery.
