John Joseph Folmer, born in Trenton, N.J., June 8th, 1920, to Aniela Deutchman Folmer and Joseph Folmer, peacefully
joined our Lord on Aug. 13, 2008. He is survived by his loving wife, Maxine, of 62 years, who he shared beautiful times of travel and fun with family. Also he is survived by his two sons and their wives, Ken and Annette Folmer, of Arizona, Robert and Debbie Folmer, of Colorado; daughter, Sharon and husband Michael Kelley, of Colorado and by his twin sister, Helen Nyzio of New Jersey. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, James and Stanley Folmer of New Jersey; sisters, Esther Sajezuk of New Jersey and Mary Debrocke of Arizona. He had eight grandchildren who he loved sharing family traditions, stories and books; Dawn Folmer Roth, William Folmer, Heather Kelley, Matthew Kelley and wife Stacy, who is carrying his soon to be great-grandson, Amanda Folmer, Eric Folmer, Denise Leeney, and Eric Moran. There are also many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was a WWII veteran serving bravely abroad in the U.S. Army as a Security Officer. He continued as the Chief Superintendant of Security at the New Jersey State Board of Education. He retired from the Security Dept. in Colorado at Woodward Governor in 1980. His horizons were expanded through his passion for reading and experiencing life, history, art and culture through this collection of books, vinyl records and photographs. These collections were his riches, his gold and he enjoyed sharing them with his closest family members and friends. All of his life, he remained close to his brothers, James and Stanley, and sisters, Mary, Helen and Esther. He kept the memories and Polish traditions of his family alive through the lunches, picnics, and holiday family gatherings where he shared stories of his youth with his siblings and parents, and passed on the spirit of the Folmer family to his children and grandchildren. In his life, he was also passionate about the outdoors --especially fishing! A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 300 West Mountain Avenue at. Military Honors will immediately follow the mass, conducted by the Fort Collins All Veterans Honor Guard. Reception will follow at the church hall.
