Joe Vansant, 70, of Fort Collins, died at his home August 28, 2014. He was born in Fort Collins on May 7, 1944 to Wendell and Elise Vansant. Joe was raised in Fort Collins, attended St. Joseph Catholic School his great –great grandfather, Frank Michaud, donated the land for the church and the school, Fort Collins High school and Colorado University graduating in architecture. He was owner of Positive Environments, Inc. and Vansant Construction. He designed, built and remodeled many commercial and residential buildings in the Fort Collins area, including the Spring Creek Medical Park and three of its main buildings. Joe valued organic sculptural-shaped buildings and was one of the first in Fort Collins to incorporate in-floor radiant heat technology. Joe was an accomplished artist. He created bronze and wood sculptures, masks and large three-dimensional wool-felt pieces. His most notable bronze sculpture is the Gatekeeper. He was an officer with the Loveland Sculpture Invitational outdoor art show in Loveland since its inception 23 years ago. A memorial service will be held at the Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St., Fort Collins at 10:30 am on Tuesday September 2. 2014. Reception will follow. Friends may send condolences to the family at bohlenderfuneralchapel.com.
