Joan D. Sekora

Joan D. Sekora was born November 2, 1931 in Denver, Colorado to Michael and Rhonda Sekora. She died January 18, 2013 at the age of 81. She lived her entire life in the Fort Collins area except for the last seven years, where she resided near Carr, Colorado. She died at Cheyenne Hospice from dementia. Joan graduated from Fort Collins High School and then worked for Colorado State University in the Audio Visual Department until she retired. She was an activist in the Sierra Club and was involved with numerous environmental issues concerning the Fort Collins area. Joan loved the great outdoors and was an avid hiker. She relished the interconnectiveness with all forms of animal life and they responded accordingly to her. Joan never married. She is survived by her brother, Palmer Sekora of Orland, California; nephews, Matthew Sekora of Philomath, Oregon, Michael McOllough of California; nieces, Susan McOllough of Idaho Springs, Colorado, Karen Sullivan of Golden, Colorado; and special friend, Ken Ruff of Carr, Colorado. Joan was predeceased by both parents, sister, Ruth McOllough; brothers, Charles and Edward Sekora. Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Joan will be cremated and her ashes spread on the short grass prairies of northern Colorado. Memorial contributions may be made to the Larimer County Humane Society in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins, Colorado 80524. Joan had a gentle soul, a great wit and strong spirit. We will miss her very much.
