Joan Follett, 81, of Walden, Colorado passed away September 28, 2014. Joan was born on her family's ranch in Spicer, Colorado on October 6, 1932, and lived in North Park for nearly 80 years. Joan met her husband, LeRoy Follett, in 1948 and they married June 10, 1951 in Walden where they made their home and had five children. In June 2011 they celebrated 60 years of marriage. Her primary roles were wife, mother, and homemaker; however, Joan worked at various times throughout her life on her family's ranch, in the timber industry, as an emergency medical technician, and spent much of her time as a volunteer serving her community. Joan was elected and served four years as the Mayor of Walden, and spent many years serving veterans, including a post as Colorado State President of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, traveling around the U.S. creating and coordinating support for veterans. Joan loved life, the mountains and enjoyed nature and animals, giving a home to strays of all kinds over the years. She also enjoyed many forms of art and was a talented china painter. Many will also remember her infectious laughter and playful ways. Joan is survived by her son, Dan Follett and his wife, Dian of Kerrville, TX and their sons, Brandon and Mike and a great granddaughter, Tristan; son, Denton Follett and his wife, Amy of Ogden, UT and their son, Quin, daughter, Terry Follett and Laura Beard of Golden, CO; son, Dean Follett and his wife, Karen of Powell, WY, and their son, Ethan. She is preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy Follett, son, Delbert Follett, her mother, her father, two brothers, and a sister.
