Joan Elizabeth Evans, 78, a long-time Fort Collins resident, died on Monday, February 14, 2011, at Balfour Retirement Community in Louisville, Colorado, following a long illness. Mrs. Evans was born on August 11, 1932 in Seward, Nebraska, to Kenneth William and Anna Louise Johnson. She married Joseph Clark Evans on September 5, 1952, in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Evans family moved to Fort Collins in August, 1966 from Manhattan, Kansas. Following the death of Mr. Evans in 2006, she lived here until December, 2007. Mrs. Evans was a troop leader and volunteer for the Girl Scouts, in Fort Collins, and at the Mountain Prairie Council headquarters in Greeley, Colorado. She was an avid gardener, and maintained a vegetable plot for several decades in the community garden at the Blessed John XXIII University Center. She also volunteered for a number of senior's organizations during the 1990s. She worked at the Rocky Mountain Bank during the 1970s and 1980s. Mrs. Evans is survived by three children, Mary Ann, John, and Kathy; two sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law; her brother, Gerald Kenneth Johnson of Papillion, Nebraska, and his family; a brother-in-law and his family; two grandsons, two grand-daughters, and three step-grand-daughters. Preceding Joan in death are her parents and her husband, Joseph. A Funeral Service will be held at Bohlender Funeral Chapel on Friday at 11:00 a.m. Viewing will be just prior to the service.
